The post-rock/experimental ternary Russian Circles features Microphone Sullivan (guitar), Colin DeKuiper (freshwater bass), and Dave Turncrantz (drums). The implemental grouping formed in 2005 in Chicago, and together they make a complex clamor of sprawl guitars, propulsive drumming, and heavy basslines. That same year, Russian Circles self-released their eponymic EP. Deuce limited edition pressings sold out promptly. Enroll marked their full-length debut for Flameshovel in spring 2006. A public intro at the annual South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX, and a brief U.S. circuit with Subtraction the Bear and Kuki-Chin Up Kuki Up coincided with its splatter. Prior to Russian Circles, Anne Sullivan and DeKuiper were members of the eclectic instrumental act Dakota/Dakota, whereas Turncrantz produced an emo-punk commotion with Riddle of Steel.
